We managed to catch up with Main midfielder Daz Winter. Thanks for your time and for answering these questions.
Hi Daz, the season is over how are you spending your time while we’re all under lockdown?
Spending time taking my daughter for long walks, painting my new house and I’ve been running 3 times a week to keep these old legs ticking over ?.
When you signed for Main you brought some much needed steel and experience to a youthful side. How would you sum up your 1st season with Main?
A really enjoyable one and one that I think I’ve done well in. Loved playing for the gaffer but gutted I didn’t get to finish the season.
Speaking of the youth in the side we have some great prospects in our team. Which young lads have impressed you most since you’ve signed?
There is some real talent in the squad and these players have impressed me the most and all have big futures in the game if they work hard, listen and do the right things. Niall (Doran),Mascher (Bailey Conway), Alfred (Thompson) and Manni (Manasse Kianga).
Also talking about the steel in the team, which Main players are the ones not to be messed with?
Easy one pal. Dorgs (Tom Dorgan). He’s like me plays with his heart on his sleeve and if it’s one in all in. Would also say watto cos he would have your back. He’s a big baby in dressing room though ?
On your experience, are you going to continue playing next season? (Hopefully with Main)
I’m nearly 40 and had a few offers but I get on really well with the gaffer (Ben Hunter) and big Sam (Parkin) and I’ve enjoyed my football so yes I’ll be staying at Rosso.
With all this wealth of experience, how many clubs have you played for?
I got released at 17 from Scunthorpe then had a month at Alfreton before playing for Maltby, Sheffield x2, Goole, Staveley, Shirebrook and Scarborough Athletic.
Which team do you support?
Leeds United
Onto the dressing room, which of the lads is the biggest joker in the dressing room?
Easy one. Zeph Thomas. What a lad and top player too.
What would be your biggest achievement in the game be and at which club?
In 2007 playing in the centenary 150th birthday Sheffield fc v Inter Milan at bramall Lane in front of 25,000 who had Marco Materazzi (World Cup winner) and Mario Balotelli playing. And also meeting and cuddling Pele. Memory I’ll never forget.
Best player you have ever played with/against?
Played with that many but I would say Paul Smith and Gav Smith at Sheffield FC and Tony Hackworth at Scarborough. Great players who really helped me. Toughest opponents would be Materazzi and Balotelli.
“Can I just thank the supporters for their amazing support and getting behind all the boys and management and for making me very welcome in the clubhouse after the game. Always had time for a chat. Great people and great club.
Thanks Russ and see you all soon”.
