Main are back in Northern Counties East League Division One action at the weekend as Rossington welcome Dronfield Town to Oxford Street.
Following Tuesday night’s NCEL Cup exit against Staveley Miners Welfare, full focus now switches back to Main’s league objective as they aim to end the season in the top five.
Dronfield looked to have secured a solid mid-table position as their recent turn in form has seen them climb into tenth place in the NCEL Division One table. The Derbyshire based outfit managed by Chris Millington have impressively won six of their last eight league games.
Nothing can separate the two sides in their last five head-to-head encounters as both sides have beaten each other on one occasion while the other three matches panned out as draws. With four games to go, Main are four points clear of the trailing pack, three points in God’s Village on Saturday would be a monumental step in the right direction in the club’s mission to achieve their highest ever league finish.
Team News
Following a wholesale changed side in the last two games, Main fans will be pleased to hear that there were no new injuries picked up during Tuesday night’s defeat to Staveley Miners Welfare.

Pre-Match Press Conference
Rossington Main manager Ben Hunter said: “First and foremost I thought the effort from the lads was top class against Staveley. It was a very tight game which maybe could have gone either way but ultimately, they are a good team who play good football and we wish them the very best for the remainder of their season.”
“I thought all of the lads who came into the lineup have put a great shift in and it was particularly pleasing to have some of our second team starting the game and doing really well.”
“We now look forward to the game at home against Dronfield on Saturday who are one of the inform teams in the league. We know we will have to be at our very best going into it. We have four games left now and the lads have put ourselves in a great position but there is so much work to do to make sure we can get in that top five, so we will be giving it everything.”
“We had a great turnout with over 200 fans on Tuesday and hope to see them all back on Saturday.”
Last Time Out v Dronfield
Main came back from behind last time the two sides met in the reverse fixture back in mid-November at the H.E. Barnes Stadium. Samuel Bebbington sent Dronfield in front on the stroke halftime. Dronfield’s lead wasn’t to be kept as Rossington came back out and completed their business in the second half following an impressive brace from Myron Gibbons. The brace which saw two goals go in just 13 minutes apart, with the final goal coming seven minutes before time which was enough to record a 1-2 victory on away soil for Rossington in front of 86 fans in north-east Derbyshire.
