Rossington return to Oxford Street this Saturday for a huge game against last season’s Northern Counties East League Division One champions Campion who sit second in the current NCEL Premier standings.
Following a midweek penalty shootout victory in the NCEL JCP Construction Cup on Wednesday evening away at Handsworth, Ben Hunter’s Rossington side head into Saturday after three successive league wins at Non-League step 5 including victories over Bottesford Town, Frickley Athletic and Thackley AFC.
While Rossington are having a memorable first campaign in the NCEL Premier following promotion last season, so are Lee Ashforth’s Bradford based Campion side who currently occupy second spot and have been the league leaders for a fair few weeks in total this season. After also featuring midweek in their Cup quarter final where they were also victorious on penalties away at Frickley Athletic on Tuesday, The Red & Blacks last three league games include a draw to fellow promotion chasing Garforth Town, an incredible victory against the league leaders Emley AFC and a home defeat to Knaresborough Town.
With both sides currently sat in the play-off positions in both Rosso’s and Campion’s debut season at Non-League step 5, an exciting and familiar fixture awaits. Despite all of the last three meetings between the pair having been an extremely close affair, it is in fact the visitors who hold the bragging rights having seen Rossington narrowly defeat by Campion in the pair’s last three head-to-head fixtures.
