Rosso return home for the final fixture of the regular Northern Counties East League Premier 2023/24 season as Ben Hunter’s side welcome the Pikes to Doncaster.
Following a rare goalless draw away to Tadcaster Albion on Saturday which made it six games unbeaten for Hunter’s Rosso in the NCEL Premier. The point picked up also confirmed a fourth place finish in Rossington’s debut season at Non-League step 5 which determines Rosso’s semi-final to be away from home with the venue and opposition to be confirmed.
The Pikes make the lengthy trip to Doncaster after a midweek 2-5 home defeat against the champions Emley AFC on Tuesday evening which was the Pikes’ seventh straight loss in the league and tenth straight game without a win. Despite the tough run of games, Pickering will finish above the relegation zone having achieved their Non-League step 5 status for next season.
Rosso have already faced the Pikes twice this season and Rossington have prevailed as winners on both occasions. Rossington secured their first win at Non-League step 5 at the start of August at Mill Lane following a narrow 0-1 victory thanks to Jordan Buckham’s goal. Although the next encounter ended as a 1-1 draw, Rosso were later victorious over the Pikes in a penalty shootout in the NCEL Cup third round in January.

Rosso advanced into the quarter final of the NCEL JCP Construction Cup last time the two sides met back in January at Oxford Street. Pickering’s top goalscorer Kieran Stares opened the scoring at the start of the second half before Rossington’s top scorer Ross Hannah scored to force a penalty shootout. An edge-of-your-seat total of 20 penalty kicks would follow which concluded with Liam Nelthorpe scoring the winning spot kick to send Rossington into the last eight with a penalty scoreline victory of 8-7 after the regular 90 minutes ended 1-1.
