Rosso make their first outing in the NCEL JCP Construction Cup when Greg Young and Ben Hunter’s team play host to Route One Rovers in the Second Round of the competition on Tuesday evening.

Rossington will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten league form through to the cup after recording a sixth NCEL Premier game in a row without defeat after the 1-1 stalemate at Penistone Church last week.

The League Cup holds many special memories for those connected to Main after reaching the Final last May.

The route to the Final began in October with a 3-1 home win over Selby Town, before Albion Sports were comfortably despatched 3-0 in the Third Round.

A Donny Derby awaited in the Quarter-Final, but Doncaster City were no match for Doncaster’s highest-ranked non-league club, with Rossington running out 5-1 winners and Myron Gibbons completing a hat-trick after only 53 minutes on the clock.

That left this season’s Second Round visitors, Rovers, standing in the way of a chance of playing for silverware. Braces from Jack Watson and Ross Hannah booked Rosso’s place at Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park, however disappointment followed in the Final against Liversedge who went on to claim a league and cup double in a 7-1 win for Sedge.

Route One Rovers, plying their trade in the NCEL Division One since promotion from the North West Counties League in 2025, entered the tournament in the First Round with NCEL Premier sides receiving a bye to Round Two. In the previous edition of the League Cup, the Bradford-based side overcame Brigg Town, Parkgate, Winterton Rangers and Handsworth until Rossington denied them a place in the final.

August’s Round One meeting with Ilkley Town proved to be an eventful one. Zak Khan had sewn up his hat-trick by 32 minutes and added a further two in the second-half. Town managed to rock the boat though, bringing the final score back to 5-3.

In the league, last season was an impressive one, adding an eighth-place finish to their League Cup Semi-Final in their maiden campaign at the level, scoring 118 goals in the process - the second-most in the division.

68 of those goals came from Khan, but Rovers will now be without their talismanic figure following his switch to Step Four’s Silsden AFC last week.

The 16 goals Khan had already netted in the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign has helped put his former side within touching distance of the play-off places as they sit seventh with one point the gap to fifth.

A 9-0 thrashing of Appleby Frodingham has been a notable highlight thus far, but Zaf Patel’s side were dumped out the FA Vase on Saturday by Horden Community Welfare when they lost 4-3 on penalties.
