Rossington Main return to action on Saturday with a trip to Cougar Park to take on Keighley Town.
Greg Young and Ben Hunter’s side head to West Yorkshire looking to build on their spectacular first victory of the campaign, which saw Pickering Town defeated 4-1 thanks to a remarkable hat-trick from Reece Fielding and Brad Grayson’s first strike of the season.
It will be 11 days since Main last took the field. Last year’s run to the Third Round of the FA Vase has given Rosso a bye to the First Round this year, allowing them some much-needed rest over the weekend whilst 12 of the league’s clubs had games in the First Qualifying Round.
With the first win and goals of this term now boxed off, attentions will turn to the next milestone of securing an away win, which would send Rossington three unbeaten in the league and likely push them into the top-half of the standings.
Keighley Town – perhaps better known previously as Eccleshill United – launched their new identity following a relocation away from Wrose to the 7,800-capacity Cougar Park, which they share with rugby league club Keighley Cougars. New co-owners Ryan O’Neill and Kaue Garcia are also owners of the Cougars.
Under the name of Eccleshill United, The Eagles navigated their way to a 12th place finish in 2025/26, just one point above Rosso and their best performance in four seasons.
The shake-up over the summer also extended to the dugout where there is a new name in the form of Des Hazel, replacing the now-Albion Sports manager Lee Elam. Hazel will be no stranger to football fans in South Yorkshire, starting his career at Sheffield Wednesday before going on to make over 200 appearances for Rotherham United.
Sitting in 18th, the Saint Kitts and Nevis international is still in search of his first win in the hot seat, losing the previous five encounters in all competitions and shipping 21 goals in the process, almost half of which came in a 10-0 defeat to Bottesford Town. It’s expected to be a season of transition for Hazel’s charges, with the team having undergone significant surgery as a result of the geographical move, explaining the challenging opening results.
Unlike Rossington, Keighley did have a game over the weekend, exiting the FA Vase at the hands of Field Olympic of the NCEL Division One. Their most recent league outing saw them surrender an early lead to lose 6-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
In the previous meeting in March, Keighley came out on top as Stevie Ellix produced a 90th minute winner to cancel out Ross Hannah’s spot kick and claim all three points in a 2-1 win.
