Rosso return to Oxford Street for league action on Tuesday as Pickering Town visit Doncaster’s highest ranked non-league club.

Rossington will be looking to bounce back from their Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round exit at the hands of 1874 Northwich with a positive performance in front of their home faithful. Still looking for their first win of the season, Main can take heart from their previous league display, in which a battling and threadbare side gave an honest account of themselves to put their first point on the board.

The group will also be better for the valuable minutes given to the recently injured Reece Fielding and Scott Ruthven in Saturday’s cup fixture, as the pair seek to regain full sharpness ahead of the return of league football.

Town were also beaten on their travels in the FA Cup at the weekend, falling to a comprehensive 4-0 defeat to Crook Town of Durham.

Pickering will though be encouraged by last season’s eighth placed finish, their best at Step 5 since being relegated from the Northern Premier League Division One East in 2022.

Simon Heslop, who spent his career playing for the likes of Oxford United and York City across the EFL and National League, replaced Tony Hackworth as manager at the turn of the year. And the former midfielder was able to stabilise Town following the slump in form that saw Hackworth dismissed, but ultimately, they fell well short of making the play-offs.

Away from home, The Pikes were seen to be a cagey side, scoring and conceding only 29 on their travels in the league, but this season has already seen them ship five without reply at Bottesford Town and Retford United. This, followed by a 3-2 defeat to newly promoted Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at Mill Lane, has left the North Yorkshire side joining Parkgate as the only two yet to register a point.

Crucial to finding their way back up the table will be replicating the goalscoring form of Ivorian striker Souleymane Coulibaly, who collected last year’s NCEL Premier Division golden boot gong with 31. The former Tottenham academy graduate is yet to feature in a matchday squad for Pickering thus far, however.

Back in March, Rosso claimed a 2-1 home win in their quest to stay up thanks to a double salvo early in the second half from Ross Hannah and Myron Gibbons, overturning Coulibaly’s opener.
