Rossington Main hit the road for the first time this season, heading north to the Skye Direct Stadium on Saturday to lock horns with Golcar United in the NCEL Premier Division.

Greg Young and Ben Hunter’s team will be looking to collect their first points of the season after falling to 1-0 defeats to both Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Albion Sports in their opening fixtures.

Rosso will again be hoping for the return of key personnel for the trip to face The Weavers. Skipper Reece Fielding missed out in midweek after being forced off at half-time on opening day. Also sidelined was striker Myron Gibbons, who came off against The Briggers in similar circumstances, while Scott Ruthven had to withdraw from the starting XI against Albion Sports after pulling up in the warm-up.

This weekend’s hosts have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new campaign, which sees them currently occupy a play-off spot. The fixture list threw up newly promoted opposition in the first two for Golcar, dispatching Retford United last Saturday in a 3-1 victory and snatching a point in the final minute of their visit to Worsbrough in a game ending 1-1.

Main will need to be wary of the goalscoring threat posed by Ashley Flynn who finished last term with a tally of 27 league goals and has continued this season in a rich vein of form, scoring all but one of United’s goals (the other being an own goal).

At the other end, Golcar have proven to be a tough nut to crack on home soil, with manager and former Huddersfield Town full-back Joe Skarz imparting his defensive wisdom on his side. Only conceding 19 times at home last season, The Weavers held the second-best home defensive record in 2025/26 meaning Rosso may have to be patient in breaking down their next test.

Both sides last met in mid-March, when Golcar were the victors in a 3-0 away loss for Rossington with Oliver Russon, George Doyle and Flynn all on the scoresheet. Rosso’s last win at the Skye Direct Stadium came in September 2023 when Manasse Kiange, now of Yaya Touré’s Slovan Bratislava, scored a brace to bring home all three points.
