Rossington Main begin their Emirates FA Cup journey on Saturday with the first stop on the way to Wembley being the Creative Hut Stadium, home of Northern Premier League Division One West side 1874 Northwich.

Rosso once again enter the competition at the Extra Preliminary Round stage and will be looking to replicate the success of last season’s run to the First Qualifying Round which saw Moulton and Newark Town put to the sword before defeat to FC United of Manchester in front of a 1,458 strong crowd.

Tough opposition awaits Doncaster’s highest-ranked non-league club, as 1874 Northwich currently ply their trade at Step 4 of the non-league system.

Last time out in the FA Cup, the Cheshire side fell at the first hurdle, suffering defeat at the hands of Bootle, but The ’74 have shown they can make a strong run in the competition, reaching the Second Qualifying Round in the season prior.

Main will be buoyed by the result and determined performance at Golcar, which saw them register their first point and clean sheet of the season despite the absence of several key players. The coaching staff will though be hopeful of seeing Scott Ruthven back in action after his return to the bench at the weekend, as too Reece Fielding who looks to inch closer to availability.

Founded in 2012 by members of the Northwich Victoria Supporters’ Trust, The Greens are one of football’s most recent additions to the pyramid, establishing themselves in response to a growing frustration at the management of Victoria. In this time, the club has moved from Step 6 to Step 4.

After relegation to the Midland League Premier Division in 2023/24 and play-off heartbreak the next season, Chris Herbert’s side sealed their return to the NPL, beating their local rivals Northwich Victoria 1-0 in the play-off final.

Herbert has since moved onto pastures new, taking on the manager’s position at Vauxhall Motors in the summer, paving the way for former player Rory Fallon to replace him. Saturday’s tie will be Fallon’s first competitive game in charge, with the league campaign not yet underway until next week.

1874 Northwich will be by no means undercooked however, having undergone an extensive pre-season programme of eight fixtures.

Saturday’s clash will be the first time the two sides have met.
