Rossington Main make the trip to Scunthorpe United’s Attis Arena on Tuesday 5 May for the Northern Counties East League JCP Construction Cup final against the NCEL Premier champions Liversedge.
Ben Hunter and Greg Young’s side are the first team in the club’s 35 seasons in the NCEL to reach the final of the League Cup as prior to this, Rosso’s best run in the competition came two seasons ago when we were defeated to Emley AFC in the semi-final. In what will be over four weeks since our season finale in which Rosso eventually confirmed a 14th place finish despite spending three months in the bottom two, the chance of Cup silverware awaits. Rosso have overcome Selby Town, Albion Sports, Doncaster City and Route One Rovers on the route to this year’s final.
Standing in Rosso’s way is arguably the toughest opponent. Liversedge, who dropped down from the Northern Premier League East division last season have bounced back superbly, storming the league, and being crowned champions in mid-March. Danny Forrest’s side could make it a perfect NCEL sweep after beating Maltby Main, Pickering Town, Frickley Athletic and Campion to get to the final.
Although 47 points and 13 places separated the two sides at the end of season, and despite Liversedge completing the league double over Rosso, both matches were closely contended. Rosso battled back from 4-1 down at home in October 2025 to reduce the deficit to a respectable 4-3 loss, while away Rosso suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat away in the December, suggesting there could be goals in this one. The final takes place at Scunthorpe United’s Attis Arena, opened in 1988 as the first new Football League Ground built in 40 years, and a venue that hosted Championship football as recently as 2011. It provides a brilliant stage for Rosso’s first opportunity to compete for the League Cup trophy, while Sedge have the opportunity to make it a memorable double.

Last Time Out v Liversedge
Five days before Christmas Day 2025, all-three points remained with Sedge who confirmed the league double over Rossington Main. Although Antony Brown opened the scoring for the visitors early doors, dualed-in forward Shaun Tuton provided the equaliser for Rosso five minutes later. In front of 258 spectators at the Clayborn Ground, Sedge did hit back with what proved to be the game-winning goal through top scorer Kelan Swales on the 37 minute.
