Rossington Main make the trip to Nottinghamshire on Tuesday evening as Ben Hunter and Greg Young’s side come up against National League North Worksop Town in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup semi-final.
Following previous round victories over Wombwell Main (Walkover, tie awarded to Rosso), Frickley Athletic and Sheffield FC, Rosso face the highest ranked first-team side in the competition and the current holders. Rossington Main head over to the Windsor Foodservice Stadium after two good Northern Counties East League Premier results in which Hunts and Youngy’s side narrowed a four-point gap from safety to just goal difference. This was after a 2-0 away win at Horbury Town which followed from a 2-2 draw away at Campion last Wednesday.
The Tigers managed by Craig Parry are enjoying their first campaign in 18 seasons back at Non-League step 2 of which, they currently sit in 17th place and find themselves eight points above the safety line albeit, with Hereford having four or five games in hand against teams around them. Having at the weekend beaten the league leaders AFC Fylde who are targeting an immediate return to the National League, Kiveton Park, Emley AFC and Dearne & District where The Tigers’ County Cup victims this year in which, the all-time record holders Worksop will be looking to be make it their 16 time of winning this trophy.
Despite there being 69 places separating 19th place Rosso of the NCEL Premier at Non-League step 5 and Worksop Town of the National League North at Non-League step 2, the two recent encounters in both 2022 and 2023 proved to be extremely close. The Tigers had to come back from behind to win 2-1 in the semi-final four years ago before equalising late in a 2-2 draw in 2023 of which, they went on to advance to another quarterfinal via spot-kicks, both ties were played in Rossington. With Worksop being promoted twice since 2022 and adding to the fact this will be the first time in over 100 years that Rossington Main have played a side from the sixth tier and above in a competitive match, the question of who will join Worsborough Bridge Athletic in the final, sets the stage for another fascinating contest.

Last Time Out v Worksop
Back in mid-November 2023, it looked like there was to be a County Cup upset at the round three stage in front of 294 spectators in Rossington. Despite Rossington Main taking the lead twice after Rosso goals from Brad Grayson and Greg Young, The Tigers equalised through Jay Rollins and Vaughan Redford to see the game finish 2-2 after 90 minutes. The round of 16 tie was then decided via penalties in which the visitors prevailed as 4-3 winners.
