Each and every Rosso fan in attendance will be witnessing part of the club’s 106-year history as for the first time ever, Rosso get ready for the third round proper of the Isuzu FA Vase as we welcome North West Counties Football League Premier division side West Didsbury & Chorlton FC.
On what is Greg Young’s first full season as Rossington Main boss, the second highest appearance maker of the current squad is the first Rosso gaffer to lead his side into the third round proper stage of the FA Vase today in which is our 41st campaign in the competition of our 106-year history.
The Manchester based visitors who are going the strong in their respective lateral Non-League step 5 division sit within the current play-off places as they look up to the current league leaders Ramsbottom United. While West Didsbury clearly look well poised for a possible promotion to Non-League step 4 as their league position shows, the visitors are also no strangers to this competition having gone as far as the quarterfinals as recent as in 2022/23.
Non-league cup competitions such as the FA Vase are notoriously difficult to predict, particularly when lateral teams meet as is the case today, with both sides competing at the same level of the pyramid. The margins are often small, and we can expect a close, competitive game with both teams fully fired up. The visitors arrive in strong form across all competitions, but Rosso have shown they can match and overcome tough North West opposition before. Only the season before last, Rosso defeated Wythenshawe who went on to be crowned champions and earn promotion to the Northern Premier League West division, a campaign that even included overcoming former EFL side Bury FC. With that in mind, anything is possible.

Rosso’s Last Time Out in the Isuzu FA Vase
Rosso recorded club history in exhilarating style away in Cumbria in the previous round. Following Jordan Holt and Jordan Irving putting Carlisle City in-front, a second half comeback performance forced the game to penalties following a goal from each of Dylan Mantle and Archie Micklethwaite. After the hosts had the chance to win the spot kicks, it took only until the second sudden death penalty whereby Rosso’s place in the third round proper was confirmed.
West Didsbury’s Last Time Out in the Isuzu FA Vase
West Didsbury advanced after a 1-2 away victory at fellow NCEL Division One side Brigg Town. Kaleb Parkinson’s goal was swiftly cancelled out by Joshua Batty’s equaliser for the Zebras however, late drama would be the deciding factor as Brandon Dawson provided West Didsbury’s winner on the 90 in front of 344 spectators at Brigg’s £1.7 million recently revamped The Hawthorns.
