Rossington Main make the 300-mile round trip to Carlisle City on Saturday for what is the club’s first and only appearance in the second round proper of the Isuzu FA Vase since 1988.
Greg Young’s side will take a short break from Northern Counties East League Premier action this weekend as Young prepares his Rosso team for game number four in the Non-League step 5 and 6 cup competition. Having matched the club’s furthest ever run in 37 years, Young has so far seen his team defeat Litherland REMYCA away from home on penalties before beating both Dronfield Town and Crowle Colts on home soil.
The Sky Blues who are managed by Dan Kirkup of whom were formed by two former Carlisle United players in 1975, also play their football at Non-League step 5 level in the Northern League Division One. Following an 18th place finish out of 22 teams last campaign, Carlisle United currently sit in mid-table following a mixed bag of results.
After a disappointing result last weekend in the league, Rosso will be hoping to set a new club record this Saturday as Doncaster’s highest ranked Non-League club have never ventured further than the second round proper in the FA Vase during the club’s 106-year history. The Sky Blues however, have made it to the third round proper in both the last two season and also in 1976 of which, tees up for an exciting contest with plenty at stake in Cumbria!

Last Time Out In The FA Vase
Rosso booked their place in the second round proper of the FA Vase following a comfortable 3-1 victory over Crowle Colts from the NCEL Division One. In mid-October, a Ross Hannah brace and Jack Watson goal overcame Lewis Graham’s finish for Crowle resulting in a convincing home victory for Young’s team.
