Rosso are back at home for the next round of the Emirates FA Cup with a place in the first qualifying round at stake as Doncaster’s highest ranked Non-League side host Newark Town.

Greg Young’s Rossington Main will once again take to action in the oldest national football competition in the world after advancing through the extra preliminary stage with a strong 4-1 victory against Moulton at the Kalkut’s Community Stadium.

Newark who pile their trade at the same lateral level of Non-League step 5 as Rosso, just in the United Counties League Premier North. They booked their place in this preliminary round fixture following a 1-2 away win over recently relegated Grantham Town, a creditable victory over The Gingerbreads who after multiple relegations in recent seasons are tipped by many to bounce back in the same division as Newark.

Both sides have lengthy FA Cup history and while Rossington reached the fourth round qualifying in 1924/25, the final year that there was six qualifying rounds which next moved to the four it is now. The original Newark topped that having reached the second round proper in 1930/31 while also making the first round proper in both 1929/30 and 1933/34.

Paul Sherburn, Cameron Hough and Reece Fielding cruised Rosso into a lead before Nat Ansu gave the visitors a glimmer of hope.
