A dominant display saw three-goals deliver a much-needed three-points against fellow Northern Counties East League Premier strugglers Wombwell Town.
In a game which Rosso could have easily scored way more than the final scoreline suggested, Myron Gibbons and Dylan Mantle provided two quality first-half finishes give the hosts a two-goal buffer at the break.
After the interval Mitch Carlton made it three by scoring his first ever Rosso goal directly from a corner kick which was to be the concluding moment in the three-goal thriller.
The game unfolded between the current bottom two sides in the NCEL Premier with Rosso starting lively from the off and winning the ball immediately off the kick takers Wombwell.
The first major chance came inside the opening ten minutes when Gibbons found himself through one-on-one with The Weller’s shot-stopper Kyle Wass, following the help of Oliver Nowak in the build-up. With the ball bobbling, the Rosso number nine couldn’t quite keep his effort down as it veered over the crossbar.
Rosso deservedly took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock when a good move from Mantle saw the ball land to Gibbons on the edge of the area. The number nine delivered a deadly driven half-volley to beat Wass at the bottom left corner, giving Rosso the upper hand.
The hosts didn’t stop there as four minutes later, current top goalscorer Mantle managed to also find the back of net to double Rosso’s advantage.
Minutes later, Paul Sherburn almost made it three only for his low-driven effort to drift narrowly wide of the near post.
With Rosso continuing to push for a third before the half-time whistle, The Wellers almost narrowed the deficit out of nowhere with Jonathan Hedge in-between the sticks for the hosts coming to the rescue at the near post.
The second half began with Rosso on the attack once more. After Mantle was denied from close range, Reece Fielding was then prevented by Wass who tipped his header onto the bar and over. As another Rosso corner was therefore given, this time from the opposite side, Carlton curled a high ball in only to find the net directly from a corner kick to put Rosso three-goals ahead.
Following the third, Mantle had multiple attempts to make it four as he on numerous occasions found himself in great positions in-behind the Wombwell backline but couldn’t provide the perfect end-product.
With Rosso three-goals to the good, a double substitution followed after the hour-mark struck with Masai Arbouin coming on to make his Rosso debut after signing for the club this week.
Following another double substitution, Ross Hannah was agonisingly close from goal number 95 for the club as his lovely, lifted effort from range landed narrowly on the roof of the goal.
Within the final few minutes, defender Cameron Hough who scored in the reverse fixture against The Wellers thought he was again going to score against The Wellers however, Wass delivered a great save at the top corner to deny Hough of what would have been an audacious half-volley from outside of the box.
In front of 148 spectators at the Kalkut’s Community Stadium, the final whistle came and went with Greg Young’s side confirming a job well done in a huge six-pointer at the bottom end of the table.
