Rossington Main are in cup action once again this Tuesday evening as The Choughs make the familiar trip to Oxford Street for the rearranged fixture.
Ben Hunter’s Rosso will play Retford FC, a familiar fixture played on multiple occasions in the Northern Counties East League Division One before Rosso gained promotion at the end of last season. This time, the two sides meet in the NCEL Cup round two under the lights at Oxford Street.
The Choughs who aim to progress each year, currently sit 15th in the division below Rosso and progressed into the second round of the competition following a 0-2 away victory over Swallownest thanks to an Aaron Sennett-Neilson brace at the ‘Swall Siro’ in mid-September.
Rossington do boast the clear better head-to-head record against The Choughs in all competitions having won all of the pair’s last five meetings. More recently, this includes a pre-season convincing 1-6 away victory at the SL2 Rail Stadium, the weekend before this season got underway.
Team News
Top goalscorer Ross Hannah and defender Cam Hough went off injured at the weekend and so it is unlikely the pair will feature against The Choughs. While Jamie Green’s return looks sooner, it is also unclear when both Jordan Buckham and Cody Prior will return to the squad after injury.

Last Time Out v Retford FC
Excluding a strong Rosso showing this year in pre-season, the result was ultimately the same the last time the two sides met in competitive action earlier this year in February when of course Rossington were eventually promoted through the play-offs. Despite The Choughs taking an early lead through Liam Frost and with Rosso’s Keegan Townrow being shown an early red card, Rosso hit-back with an impressive two first half goals from Ross Hannah and then one from Brad Grayson. After the restart Haydn Goddard narrowed the deficit for The Choughs before ten men Rosso went on to comfortably take all three points when Hannah completed his hat-trick and Retford’s Liam Bennett scored an own-goal. In front of 149 spectators away at Retford, the scoreline ended 2-5 in Rossington’s favour.
