Managerial masterclass by Main who ensure the all-important three points stay on the street.
Match Report?: Rossington Main 3 v 0 Rainworth Miners Welfare
Main returned to winning ways as three goals secured a valuable three points in what was a comfortable but thoroughly deserved victory at Oxford Street.
Tyla Bell broke the deadlock two minutes before the first half whistle blew through a clinical header at the back post.
Declan Slater doubled Main’s advantage five minutes after play resumed following a comfortable composed finish beyond the Wren’s goalkeeper from close range.
A menacing run in behind by substitute Myron Gibbons allowed him to rampantly deposit the third and final goal for Rossington.
The swirling wind played in huge favour to the Wrens early on as a high and hoisted corner kick almost proved to be the opener six minutes into the contest, thankfully for Main the crossbar came to the rescue.
Rossington had a huge penalty appeal dismissed on the 20 minute mark following a controversial shrug to the ground by a Wren’s defender.
Main looked to have broken the deadlock when Bell delivered a shot on target inside the visitors’ penalty box but Warren Squires beat the ball behind in between the sticks for the Wrens.
Prior to Gary Mundy receiving a yellow card for a controversial bad tackle, Main continued to have the better of the chances, but the contest still remained goalless.
A chilly opening 45 minutes saw a large bit of spice added late on in the first half as Bell’s headed effort broke the deadlock two minutes before the whistle blew. Main came ever so close to doubling their advantage only for the post to halt them in their track nevertheless, it was the hosts who took the lead into the interval.
Main resumed the second half as prolific as how they ended the first. A lovely passage of passing play allowed Slater to comfortably slot it past Squires to double Rossington’s advantage on the 50 minute.
Main’s goal march continued as Gibbons instantly made an impact following his switch for William Monteiro minutes after the hour mark struck. Gibbons found himself clean through on goal and so there was only to be one outcome, a composed finish across goal.
A similar substitute procedure almost followed for the hosts, this time Jordan Buckham looked to have found the fourth only for his two efforts to both rattle the woodwork at the back post.
The contest’s final moments dribbled out with Main in full control to give Ben Hunter’s Blue Army a fully deserved three points.
