Despite four well-taken Rosso finishes, the champions claimed all three-points on the final day of the Northern Counties East League Premier 2024/25 campaign.
Buxton loanee Dylan Mantle delivered the first-goal inside the opening ten minutes with an instinctive finish however, two minutes later Harry Coates put Silsden back on level terms following a corner kick up the other end.
Two quality goals shortly followed as a long-range wonder strike from Oliver Nowak restored Rosso’s advantage on the 21 minute however, seven minutes late Toby Jeffrey put Silsden level again. After Ross Hannah restored Rosso’s advantage for the third time on the 31 minute, Jake Maltby evened things once again nine minutes later.
After the break Mo Conteh smashed the visitors in-front for the first time before Robbie Fox extended Silsden’s advantage 12 minutes later. Brandon Murillo pulled one back for Rosso with a brilliant finish into the top corner with 14 minutes left on the clock. A late comeback wasn’t to be as the table toppers scored the game’s tenth and final goal vial Luke Brooksbank with ten minutes to go.
The season finale between Rosso and the champions Silsden commenced with the hosts giving a thoroughly deserved guard of honour to The Cobbydalers as they entered the Oxford Street surface.
Following a first chance from Cody Prior which was deflected out for a corner, on the ninth minute Rosso took the lead when Mantle clinically made use of the crossed in ball and defeating Callum Bradbury in-goal for the visitors.
Rossington’s advantage would unfortunately only last for two minutes as Silsden hit back on the 11 minute after a corner from The Cobbydalers spilled out to Coates who via a low-driven attempt found the bottom left-hand corner.
Ten minutes later Nowak put the hosts back in-front with a moment of individual brilliance as the number 11 from outside of the box, cut inside and delivered the perfect powerful finish into the top far-corner to defeat Bradbury.
Silsden responded similar to how they did the first as seven minutes later and also from far out, Jeffrey’s effort with help from the crossbar bounced over the line to see the scoreline go to 2-2.
With four goals inside the opening half-hour, Rosso’s current leading goalscorer Hannah put Doncaster’s highest ranked Non-League side in front for the third time of the afternoon with a near post header from the corner three minutes later.
An already continuous pattern carried on as five minutes before the break, Maltby curled the title winners level which would be the game’s sixth goal in just 40 minutes.
After the interval, the trend was broken for the first time of the afternoon as Silsden took the lead via a Conteh’s left-footed finish across goal on the 52 minute before Fox put the visitors two clear 12 minutes later.
On the 76 minute the ball veered out to Rosso’s number four Murillo who after a brilliant move executed a goal of the season contender with a strike which caressed into the very-top corner giving The Cobbydalers man between the sticks Bradbury no chance.
With the deficit at just one, the next goal looked to be deciding and unfortunately for Rosso, Greg Young’s side fell back to two behind with Brooksbank finding the heart of the goal and the game’s tenth finish.
In front of 167 spectators on a sunny April’s Saturday, the final whistle came and went with the ten goal thriller concluding a second Non-League step 5 season for Doncaster’s highest ranked Non-League side.
