Rosso defeated in Sheffield under the lights of the Oldest Football Ground in the World.
Paul Sherburn’s excellent low-driven finish on the 16 minute which gave Hugo Warhurst no chance at the far corner cancelled out Hallam’s opener via a Rossington own-goal on the unlucky 13 minute.
Rio Allan returned the hosts back in front on the 25 minute via the spot after Rosso was awarded a penalty against them. Leon Howarth then put Hallam two goals to the good six minutes later with a well-taken strike from the right hand side.
The hosts confirmed the three points with a fourth midway through the second half as Brodie Litchfield scored on his debut for The Countrymen.
The battle between The Countrymen and Rosso got underway with the visitors testing Warhurst in between the sticks for Hallam. Jack Harrison emitted a brilliant looping through ball over to Brad Grayson who hit the target on the volley to earn a corner. Manasse Kianga’s header was then saved by the hosts as the game remained goalless after five minutes.
Despite Rosso definitely starting better and more dominant it was The Countrymen who drew first blood on the 13 minute via an away team error which lead to an own-goal at the back.
Rossington didn’t let the setback alter their start as Sherburn’s moment of individual brilliance followed three minutes later as the number two drove forward and stunned the Sandygate faithful with a smashing low bullet into the bottom right corner to even the scoreline early on.
After a brilliant save at the top corner by Rosso shot-stopper Leigh Overton following Hallam’s header from a corner, another unfortunate moment followed for the away side as The Countrymen received a penalty. Overton did dive the correct way but Allan tucked the ball too far into the corner as the Sheffield side restored their lead.
Howarth put away Hallam’s third on the 31 minute with a quick run down the right which ended with him finding the bottom corner after cutting inside.
Overton soon made another good stop to deny the hosts of a fourth but then up the other end, Grayson almost pulled one back for Rosso as his free-kick fired off the wrong side of the crossbar.
Rosso made four substitutions after the break but it was the hosts who scored next as Litchfield on his debut at Sandygate moved Hallam three in front.
In front of 445 spectators the scoreline of 4-1 continued for the fourth time in a row for Rossington but this time on the unfavourable side of the scoreline.
