Rossington Main settled for a fourth consecutive league draw after twice coming from behind to secure a point at Parkgate on Saturday.

Alexander Russell’s goal gave The Steelmen a lead, but Adam Watson levelled with a towering header in the second-half.

Alexander Asaba capitalised on a defensive slip to restore the advantage, however Rosso fought back once more to equalise through Harry Wilson’s composed lobbed finish.

Main had chances to snatch all three points at the end, but the draw was probably a fair reflection of the contest.

The result means Greg Young and Ben Hunter’s side remain unbeaten away from home in the NCEL Premier and sit 14th in the standings.

The management duo made five changes to the side that drew at Penistone Church, with Watson replacing the suspended Reece Fielding and Oscar Wainwright making his league debut. Jamie Green, Brad Grayson and Ross Hannah all earned recalls after starting in the JCP Construction Cup midweek.

Parkgate hit the front on 13 minutes when a free-kick from deep was stood up for Russell to meet unchallenged and nod across Kian Johnson’s goal for 1-0. This came just moments after Hannah had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.

Despite their dominance, the home side could not make their chances pay further in the opening spell. A crucial intervention from Wainwright prevented a one-on-one opportunity arising and Harry Mitchell was called upon to clear a corner ball off the line.

Josh Nodder had a finessed effort just curl round the post when played in by the rangy Asaba just before half-time in what was his team’s best chance of doubling the lead.

Changes were afoot at the interval as both Myron Gibbons and Wilson entered the fray, looking to inject a much-needed attacking spark into the second period.

It turned out to be just the tonic for Rosso, who played with much more intent and endeavour to their game as demonstrated by the direct running of Oli Nowak, letting fly from inside on several occasions.

On 62 minutes, it was 1-1 when Wilson spun a delightful corner into the box for Watson to win first contact and find the bottom corner with aplomb, leaving the keeper’ rooted to his spot.

With momentum in their sails, Main continued their forward advances, Hannah again having his celebrations curtailed by an offside flag after Wainwright was marginally late in slipping the striker through.

Good work from Green and Hannah on the left allowed the former to hang a looping cross to the back stick where Nowak was arriving, but he couldn’t keep his header down to test Samuel Riches.

An untimely slip from Green would ultimately lead to Parkgate edging back ahead as Asaba nicked the ball and drove towards goal before unleashing a composed low driven shot into the far corner.

On 82 minutes, Hannah sent a high ball into the space of Ollie Currie. Both the midfielder and goalkeeper reached the pass at the same time, resulting in neither party taking control. Luckily for Rosso the ball fell to Wilson on the edge of the box who applied a perfect lobbed finish to guide home the equaliser into an empty net.

As the clock ticked down and the game entered 11 minutes of stoppage time, Rossington began to find some joy on the counter. Nowak burst into the box and managed to stay on his feet to get away his shot, only to fire wide. And Wilson linked up with Gibbons in the final throw of the dice, his volley unable to find the direction to trouble Riches.

The final whistle blew to confirm an entertaining 2-2 draw after a much-improved second-half display, however Mack Warne found himself on the receiving end of a red card in the aftermath.
