Rossington will look to bounce back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they entertain Bottesford Town in Northern Counties East League Premier Division action.
After a disappointing visit to Frickley Athletic last weekend, which saw Rosso suffer a 5-1 defeat, Rossington will be looking to right the wrongs of their last game and give the fans a first win in four.
Ben Hunter and Greg Young will have to navigate a tricky set of fixtures as they look to return Main to form, with Rossington set to face three of the current top five in their next five league games, beginning with the visit of second-placed Bottesford Town.
Town sit seven points off top spot with two games in hand on Dearne & District after a purple patch at the start of the season saw them win six on the bounce.
Since then, consistency has been a little harder to come by having won only two from eight ahead of the weekend’s clash. They are, though, unbeaten in five, having drawn four of those games.
The Poachers have had a little more success in cup competitions, however, casting aside Golcar United and Blyth Town to set up a Second-Round tie at Chadderton in the FA Vase, while seeing off fellow promotion hopefuls Retford United in a 2-0 JCP Construction NCEL Cup win.
Town have been much improved on last term, having been involved in the mad scramble to avoid 19th on the last day. Much of their uptick in fortunes can be traced back to their defensive record which has seen them go from having the third-worst rearguard numbers (81 conceded) to the second best this season (12 conceded). They have also registered a league-best seven clean sheets in this time.
And the goals have been flowing at the other end of the pitch too with the two-pronged threat of Owen Vincent and Jack McMenemy enjoying a fruitful season that has seen them both feature in the league’s top goalscoring charts.
Also set to feature for the Scunthorpe-based side is Cody Prior, who racked up over 150 appearances for Rosso and played in the previous outing between the two teams where Town had the better of Main in Rossington, winning 2-1.
