Main head to Westfield Lane on Saturday for a clash with Lee Morris’ Frickley Athletic, with Rosso looking to maintain their unblemished away record in the NCEL Premier Division.

Ben Hunter and Greg Young’s men will be looking to bounce back after Tuesday night’s defeat at home to Thackley, which saw them suffer a first defeat in ten league games.

Rosso were good value for a draw in midweek after Rob Guilfoyle’s penalty levelled just before half-time and a rallying second-half performance, but ultimately an error at the back condemned Hunter and Young’s men to a third league defeat of the season.

That result leaves Rosso 13th after 13 games and looking to narrow the four-point gap to fifth-placed Campion with Rossington retaining a game in hand.

Opponents Frickley Athletic are now under new management and have enjoyed an uptick in form since the arrival of Morris from Worsbrough Bridge, replacing ex-Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United winger Martyn Woolford.

The former Briggers boss stepped down from his role after almost three years at the helm, with his newly promoted former side sitting just four points off top spot.

The Blues boss, whose Worsbrough side defeated Rosso on opening day, joined Frickley tasked with moving his side clear of danger at the opposite end of the table after a seven-game winless run.

Since taking to the dugout in South Elmsall, Athletic have taken seven points from a possible 12 with their most notable win being a 2-0 victory back at Morris’ old stomping ground, courtesy of a brace by another former Brigger in the shape of Keelan Grist, taking him to three goals in two appearances in a blue shirt.

The impact of the managerial change has since seen Frickley move out of the bottom two into 17th ahead of the weekend, having played a game less than Parkgate, who have themselves rolled the managerial dice.

Another who will be looking to haunt his old side will be Guilfoyle who signed for Saturday’s opposition in the summer of 2024, even netting against Rosso in their 4-0 home win that season. Joint manager Greg Young will also be looking to taste victory at a ground where he featured as both player and coach.

In the last meeting of the sides, Rossington ran riot in a 4-0 home win that saw Myron Gibbons take home the match ball with Dylan Mantle joining him on the scoresheet to avenge the earlier 4-1 loss in the reverse fixture. Rosso also edged past Athletic with a 7-6 penalty shootout win in Round Three of the Sheffield Senior Cup last season.
