Main were made to settle for a fifth consecutive league draw against 10-man Handsworth as a late wonder strike denied Rosso all three points in a 2-2 draw.

Rosso were two goals to the good with twelve minutes to go, but a spirited Handsworth side scored twice to peg the hosts back despite their numerical handicap.

On his return to Oxford Street, Cam Hough was given his marching orders by the referee when he pulled Myron Gibbons down with no attempt to play the ball after the striker had only Jim Pollard to beat.

Rossington hit the front soon after with the familiar sight of Reece Fielding heading home a Mason Warren set-piece from the back post.

One turned to two just after the hour mark when Ollie Currie picked out Ross Hannah to turn home.

Handsworth unsettled a few when James Simmonite headed in from point-blank range and the fears of many came true two minutes into injury time when Jonathan Williams struck an excellent first-time effort into the top corner to square the match.

The Ambers were the side asking the early questions with Harry Mitchell throwing himself at a shot from the edge of the box before Kian Johnson was forced into a fingertip save to divert a header over the bar.

The game opened up for Rosso however, when Hough’s return was cut short after 23 minutes. The central defender prevented Gibbons from unleashing a strike as he scampered through on goal by clumsily bringing him to ground, leaving the referee no choice but to reach for his back pocket.

Gibbons was in again moments later as Hannah launched a ball in behind for his strike partner to latch onto, sending his half-volley wide of the post.

But it wasn’t long before Rosso made their extra man pay. As has become a regular recurrence, Warren picked his man out with precision, this time to the benefit of the skipper, whose ferocious diving header sent the net rippling.

A lively start to the second half followed but was without any real goalmouth action until Hannah added to the advantage on 62 minutes.

A well-crafted move was started by substitute Harry Wilson pulling wide to create space for Oscar Wainwright to thread a ball through for Currie. The ex-Ambers midfielder beat his man with a Cruyff turn inside the area, allowing him to find Hannah who swivelled on the spot and fired past the keeper’.

Undeterred by the scoreline, Handsworth responded well as the pendulum began to swing their way.

Mitchell Dunne forced a fine save from Johnson after beating Wainwright to a cross from the far side and it was to be a cross that would open the door ajar for Handsworth to begin their comeback.

A free-kick from deep found its way to Owen Haigh to loop over two defenders with the outside of his boot, leaving Simmonite with a lay-up, which he was never going to miss.

With their tails up, Handsworth continued to force the issue as they found their way back in the game.

Luke Mangham spotted Williams with time and space, lurking just left of the D, who needed no invitation to bend past Johnson and into the far corner in what would be a real sucker punch for Rosso.

The game concluded shortly after, and Main were left with only a point for the sixth time this season.
