Rosso earned a point in the 85th minute thanks to Harry Wilson’s first goal for the club against Knaresborough Town on Tuesday night.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead on 13 minutes. A game of pinball inside the box ensued after Rossington failed to clear the initial cross. Eventually, Slater Barkham-Barnes was presented with a clear opportunity to get a strike off, firing past the helpless Kian Johnson from the edge of the six-yard box.

Man of the match Johnson’s reflexes were put to the test when the ball was centred for Ben Gelder to convert from point blank range, but the shot stopper produced a strong right hand to divert past the past and keep the margin to one.

A frustrating end to the half saw Main go into the break a goal behind having struggled to ask too many questions of the Knaresborough back line.

Rosso rode their luck at times after the interval. A soft header back to Johnson was latched onto by the onrushing forward who saw the keeper’ off his line, but his looped effort was off target to the relief of Main’s defence.

Johnson was present again to get down low to Sam Leverett’s shot before Rossington’s first real chance of the encounter. Mack Warne delivered a searching cross to the back post where Archie Micklethwaite was waiting all alone but the number two blazed over the bar with the angle against him.

Soon after, Ben Gelder broke the offside trap to face up Johnson one on one, but he remained composed to stand strong and get a crucial touch to keep Rosso in the game.

Rosso thought they had capitalised on another set-piece when this time Adam Watson found himself centre of attention from a corner. The commanding central defender escaped his marker but couldn’t quite find the contact required to head goalward.

As both teams traded attacks, it was hearts in mouth action again for Rosso as Leverett tried his hand at chipping Johnson, getting closer than his teammate as the ball bounced kindly against the post.

In their quest to find an equaliser, Rossington heaped the pressure on their opponents, Oli Nowak picking up a loose ball on the edge of the box and testing The Boro keeper’s readiness.

Five minutes from time, substitute Harry Wilson made his mark. Warne’s long-throw was helped on by Watson, but it was Wilson’s intelligence and anticipation to meet the bouncing ball that allowed him to steal a march on his marker at the far stick and steer the leveller past Edd Hall.

It was an uncomfortable end for the Oxford Street faithful though, with a couple of corners giving cause for concern. The first saw Harry Coates denied a winner by what appeared to be the linesman ruling the corner had swung out of play before re-entering the area. The second was met by a strong punch from Johnson, which was enough to see the spoils shared and Rosso go four unbeaten in the league.
