Chairman's Thoughts on Special Weekend at Oxford Street

Rossington Main chairman Daniel Linstrum offered his thoughts after what he described as a very special weekend for the club.

Linstrum said: “It has been without doubt a superb weekend for our football club with Ben Hunter’s first team wining 3-2 on Saturday at home to Wakefield AFC keeping our playoff dream alive in what was an action-packed game that had everything.”

“Then on Sunday saw Andrew Cunningham’s history making Women’s team play their first ever game against Millmoor Warriors in front of a massive crowd of 351 down at Oxford Street. The match was really exciting which delivered nine goals and plenty of excitement as the close game saw Millmoor narrowly claiming the victory in the final moments of the second half.”

Since the initial idea a few months prior, everyone at the club has worked hard behind the scenes to get that first game over the line. Now the club and our new Ladies team can look forward to the next match and the future of which part of the Women’s football league ladder we will be placed into.

“The Ladies’s game will now be a huge part of our identity going forward and I am delighted that all the players and staff got the recognition and support on Sunday that they deserved. We are now all very much looking forward to the future and I can’t thank all our supporters enough for turning out in force for this special occasion.”

With the first team claiming a statement victory over the in-form team in the league and as well as the Ladies match, Rossington’s reserve team managed by Thomas Harte were also meant to feature at home but had to be postponed due to the opposition not being able to field a team.

“Our second team game was unfortunately called off this weekend and that will be four weeks without football for Tom Harte’s side. However, huge credit and thanks goes to him, his staff and players who came to support the first team on Saturday and also watching the women make history on Sunday. It was great to also see first team manager Ben Hunter, his family and his assistant Mick Fraser in attendance.”

"Finally a huge well done to all the club’s players, staff and volunteers, it really has been a superb weekend.”

“Massive thank you once again for everyone’s continued support and Up The Main!”
